Haridwar means Gate of Hari ( Ishwar ). This holy city is situated in Uttrakhand of India. This city is known holy city from the old age. There is description for many time with gratitude in the Hindus, Veda, Purana and Upanishad etc.

The Ganga River reached at first time in plains from her source Gomukh. So Haridwar is also called Gangadwar. After the ‘Samudra Manthan’ some drops of Nectar ( Amrit )  has fell here. So, a huge fare of KUMBH is organized here, there are some other places where drop of amrit has fallen ,where  a fare organized that is Ujjain, Nasik and Prayag. In Ujjain, Nasik and Haridwar the fare is organized  in the interval of 3 years and in Allhabad (U.P.), Mahakumbh organized every 12th year. It is said the religious importance of the Mahakumbh which is organized in Gangadwar, Haridwar. It is to be said that all sins are wash out after the bathing in Kumbh and the person get Salvation (moksh).

Where the drop of amrit had fallen that place is called "Brahmakund" in "Har Ki Paudi". Brahma Kund has supernatural power, to get rid of physical diseases after taking a bath over here  People believe that they achieve heaven on this earth after taking bath in this water.

The meaning of Haridwar / Hardwar is Har (Shiv) Hari ( Vishnu ), because it is the entrance of the four pilgrimage. There is a four pilgrimage in Uttrakhand, Badrinath, Gangotri, Kadarnath, Yamunotri. Visit of these pilgrimages is available only in the month of summer. During this period larg number of  devotees reach  here. Har Ki Paudi has the very important place in Haridwar, ‘Har Ki Paudi’ means "the feet of Lord". It is to be said that Lord Vishnu has put the foot mark on the stone, where Ganga Ji touched here.

In ‘Har Ki Paudi’ at the time of prayer of Ganga Ji it is so marvelous scene and gives special feelings. The person thosev who visit  Haridwar, they must attend the "Prayer of Ganga". In this prayer the devotees  flow the candles in the Ganga river for the peace of the soul of there ancestors. This Scene seems to be  very beautiful.

Here is also a Ashram of Kapil Muni, According to puran, King Bhagirath ( who was ancestors of Lord Ram )after the long austerity in golden age to free their 60000 ancestors from the curse of sage kapil ,he bought  River Ganga , There after his fore fathers get free from the curse. That’s why today millions of Hindu people  flow the bones and ashes of his ancestors in Ganga, to get their soul freedom (salvation).

There is a lot of ancient temple of Lord Vishnu, Shiva, Durga ji and Ganga Maa around the "Har Ki Paudi" and Brahma Kunda in Haridwar. Most of  the temples are made of white marble which has beautiful carvings.

The panday of  Haridwar   keep the detail of many generations very safely, that is available from  all pandays on  the basis of village, town and districts. The followers of  Hindu religion after the funeral, flow of ashes and bones of their forefathers, went to the pandays who has record of generations, and feed the details of their family about like birth, marriages and death. Generally the person gets information wherever he take birth in India or Pakistan. It is so amazing that to keep the record of ancient and lot of information.

Chanda Devi Temple, Maya Devi Temple and Mansa Devi Temple  are also very devotional place’s in Haridwar.
